Step 12 - Quilt Label

Step 12 - Quilt Label

Make a label for your quilt and sew it to the back.

The label should include your name and the date the quilt was finished. You can also include the recipient's name, the occasion, and a title for the quilt if you wish.

For this quilt I used the hem stitch to embroider the label to the back, using pearl cotton thread. Alternately, you could sew it on by machine or use a simple running stitch.

I would not recommend using a Bic permanent marker, as I did in pink, because it bled and was unintelligible. The black lettering was done with a fine point Sharpie and that seemed to work well. They come in a variety of colors. An embroidered label would take more time and planning, but would add a beautiful finish.
