I just finished several doll quilts and posted one for sale on my Etsy shop.
These were fun to make using vintage inspired fabrics, including images from the Dick and Jane readers. What memories I have of those pictures!
I gave one to my nieces on Thanksgiving and one to my friend who has four daughters. One is for our grandchild who will be born next May, and there is one more that I haven't decided what to do with yet. That shouldn't be too hard with Christmas right around the corner!
I'm making a concerted effort to wrap up numerous projects that I have in the works. I've mentioned this before and I do think it is so important to finish things. Beginning is always easy and fun for me, but bringing things to completion requires perseverance. Advent starts tomorrow and I think this could be a good time to see what projects, work and relationships we've kind of dropped the ball on, and see if we can't renew our efforts to complete them.
Of course relationships are never completed, but maybe there are some which require renewed attention, or some action on our part to address unfinished or unsettled situations. If it feels so good to complete a project as small as this doll quilt, how much more satisfaction will we feel when we push ourselves to take that next step in a certain relationship. So much good can come from our willingness to, "make an effort," "take the first step," or to simply "be there."
I love that idea and the reality of being together. The holidays are always a reminder for me to not take the loved ones in my life for granted. Missing our son Dan as much as I do, especially when our family gathers in numbers, reminds me of how beautiful it is to simply have the joy of being in the physical presence of each other. The smiles, hugs, and the great joy of looking into each others eyes should be appreciated and savored while we have the opportunity.
Don't miss out!
