The anticipation of a new baby always gets my creative juices flowing! Last month, I finished this felt baby book for our newest granddaughter. I loved making it as it allows for a lot of creativity. You can give it a retro look by using vintage fabrics or choose newer fabrics for a modern look. The pattern I used is in the wonderful book Sew Liberated: 20 Stylish Projects for the Modern by the creative Meg McElwee.
I used Moda's wool felt which worked beautifully; the colors are rich and it has a nice drape. Recently I ordered some German wool felt (Wollfilz) from Purlsoho, thinking I might make another book with images of my own. The quality of that felt is wonderful and the colors are incredible! Felt is easy to work with; very forgiving, and since the edges don't unravel there is no need to worry about turning under edges. Give felt a try and if making an heirloom gift, go for the good stuff (wool!).
