Our granddaughter was baptized last weekend when I was visiting. What a joyous occasion!
I wanted to make something special for her to commemorate the special occasion and I came up with the idea of a baptismal handkerchief. I'm familiar with the tradition of giving a baby girl a white cotton or linen baby bonnet that converts into a handkerchief which can be used on her wedding day. That got me thinking of weddings and the tradition of the bride having something blue. Putting these different ideas together, and seeing this beautiful scarf made by Molly over at Purlsoho, inspired me to create this blue handkerchief. My daughter and I decided that it would be a nice tradition to use this handkerchief for her daughter's future Sacraments; carrying it in her purse for her First Holy Communion and Confirmation, then putting it in her bouquet on her wedding day.
I used the amazing Liberty of London floral cotton, which I purchased from Purlsoho, and used the technique in their scarf tutorial. I finished it off by monogramming the hanky with an "L" for our Lucia Marie; little "Lucy".
Welcome into our family Lucy! We love you!
I love the re-design of the blog layout! Lucy misses you!
