Have you wondered what I've been up to?
Well, I have been making a lot of things, especially little girl things; anxiously awaiting the arrival of our newest granddaughter!
The dress above was made from a vintage Simplicity pattern which I purchased at Joann's. I made some small changes; altered the pockets and sleeves. The printed fabric is called lawn cotton and is specifically a Liberty of London print which I purchased at Purlsoho in New York. Lawn cotton is especially fine cotton and feels almost like silk, making it a joy to work with.
I had the thought that it would be fun to make a dress for the new baby, not considering the fact that I have not made a dress in about twenty-five years and never one as small as this before. It was not easy! Now that I have done one I am sure the next one will be a lot easier, but it was tricky working such small armholes not to mention the teeny tiny neckline!
As with all kinds of situations in life, they can be tricky. They can be hard. They can be overwhelming! When it got too late at night for me to have patience with this project, I wisely remembered to put it down; come back to it the next day. That really helped and will hopefully help me to do the same with bigger issues in my life. Coming back to situations a day or so later and remembering that feelings do pass, can be a life saver. There really isn't too much in life that has to be "solved" immediately, even if that were possible. I have gotten a lot better at watching things unfold.
